Electricity shopping. Simplified. For Texas homes, apartments & move-ins

SMALL CALCULATIONS. CLEARER DECISIONS.

Electricity calculators for your home.

Understand your bill, estimate an appliance’s running cost, and compare two simple plan structures before taking the next step.

Start with your own numbers.

These tools calculate estimates from the figures you enter. They do not retrieve utility accounts, show live electricity offers, or confirm savings. Inputs stay on this page and are not saved or submitted.

UNDERSTAND YOUR BILL

What did you pay per kWh?

Divide your current electricity charges by the energy you used to find your effective average rate for that billing period.

The result includes whatever charges you enter. It is an effective bill average, not necessarily your contracted energy rate or the EFL’s advertised average price.

EXPLORE YOUR USAGE

What could an appliance cost?

Estimate energy consumption from wattage and running time. Use measured power when possible; many appliances cycle on and off.

Assumes constant wattage during the running time entered. Fixed monthly charges, usage tiers, credits, taxes and standby power are excluded. An average bill rate gives only a rough estimate of incremental cost.

COMPARE SIMPLE PLAN STRUCTURES

Compare two flat-rate estimates.

Use the same monthly usage for both plans. Enter each plan’s combined usage-based charges and fixed monthly charges from its documents.

Plan A
Plan B

For simple flat-rate structures only. Include applicable delivery charges once. Do not use an advertised average EFL rate and then add charges already included in it. Bill credits, tiers, time-of-use pricing, taxes, deposits and termination fees are excluded. Verify the full EFL before enrolling.

GO A LITTLE DEEPER

Explore your utility bills with VeriMeter.

Looking beyond a single electricity calculation? Explore VeriMeter’s utility tools and Bill Lens for working with bill details and annotations.

Opens the separate VeriMeter site. Review its tools and privacy information before adding a bill.
